A seductive film. that is the basic definition. because it could be more front to great expectations of the fans of series. silly and strange in many moments, mix of impressive graphic and kitsch, loyal to novel but in large lines, it is one of good exercises to translate in image a complex universe. and the only sin could be only the mark of 1980 years mark. but it is only one of ingredients of seduction. a film who remains provocative. and poetic. interesting. and beautiful. for the courage of David Lynch to build an eccentric and credible adaptation for a legendary book. for the sparkles of few scenes. for status of first adaptation. and for the aura of past. because, more than a good film, it represents proof of taste of a period and mark of a great director art.

I'm now interested in this because I live where the original saga was based on. Females would remain cool and calm during peace time. and thats how we know this is a fantasy world. Duke energy. The good things of the movie is the atmosphere. The movie more or less breathes the atmosphere of the book, which is very well done considering the complexity of the book.

What many folks don't know is, Frank Herbert was present FOR the filming of the movie, and approved OF the casting, director's vision, and the screenplay (which he helped flesh out. I too saw the film prior to reading the book, but that was a help, not a hindrance. I love both the extended version, and the theatrical release. Dune is one of the few stories that you can find something to believe in, and take with you throughout your life. It's a story that I've insisted on my child reading, so as to impart a life-lesson that cannot be summed up in words.
